JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

The Johnson City Police Department says 68 year old Jerry Hilbert of Telford, was driving at the intersection of West Walnut and St. Clair Street when his vehicle left the road and hit a concrete wall.

Rescue crews had to extract Hilbert and passenger, 31 year old Edwin Macy of Johnson City, from the vehicle.

Both were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center. JCPD says Hilbert's injuries are life threatening.  However, passenger Edwin Macy's are not and he is reportedly in stable condition this morning.

Investigators say speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
