Most Wanted: home burglary in Sullivan County

SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

If it's happened to you, you know the feeling of violation.

Someone breaks into your home when you're not there and takes things, items you treasure.

Police say, it's one of the most common crimes in the Tri-Cities, and finding the person who did it and the items they took can be very difficult.

On Sunday July 14th, someone driving this car drove up to a home on Arcadia Road, broke into the house, went to a bedroom and stole guns, ammunition, and money.

"So we believe they came to the home to try to find out if anyone was home," said Leslie Earhart, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.   "They left, then came back.  That's when they kicked in the door, went to the bedroom and stole the items."

They're looking for newer model Ford Explorer, possibly gray or light green in color.   The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office released a photo of the car involved in the burglary.

Earhart says homeowners can take a simple step to increase their chances of getting stolen items returned.

"We're asking if you do have type of weapon or gun - any type of serial number - write it down," Earhart said.  "Keep it in a safe place.   Because a lot of the weapons that have been stolen we can't track them because the serial numbers weren't documented."
