Air conditioning issues affect CRMH intensive care units

Posted: Updated:

An air conditioning problem at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is requiring the use of portable cooling units.

Spokesman Eric Earnhart says that the problem is 3 blocked cooling coils. The blockage reduces the flow of cool air. Engineers are working to repair the system, and hope to be done by Thursday night.

Earnhart adds that they've brought in 18 portable cooling units, and that temperatures in the affected area are 3 to 6 degrees warmer than normal. He adds that conditions are not dangerous for patients, and no patients have been moved because of the cooling problem.
