ASHEVILLE, N.C. -

Two Asheville Tourists baseball players have been arrested and charged with criminal sex offenses.

WSPA-TV reported that Sergeant Dave Romick of the Asheville Police Department announced that Michael Ryan Mason, 23, and Jesse Meaux, 23, were each charged with two counts of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sex offense. According to Romick, detectives with the Asheville Police Department consulted with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office after an extensive investigation and obtained warrants against the two players.

A incident report states that the alleged assault happened at the players' apartment at Ascot Point Circle early Saturday morning.

Following the arrests on Thursday, the Colorado Rockies released a statement and noted that each player has been suspended pending the legal process.

"The Colorado Rockies and their affiliate, the Asheville Tourists, are aware of the arrests and the very serious allegations against two players, Michael Mason and Jesse Meaux," according to Rockies spokesman Jay Alves. "Each organization is shocked and deeply concerned about the allegations. At this time, the players have been suspended as the investigation and legal process continue. "

"We are working with the authorities investigating the circumstances and issues surrounding the events and are awaiting further details and findings," Alves said. "Given that this is an ongoing legal investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment or speculate any further."

Mason and Meaux are each being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.

Mason, a pitcher, was 3-1 this season with a 3.38 earned run average for the Tourists, the Rockies Single-A affiliate, this season. Meaux has pitched in 16 games for the Tourists compiling a 0.90 ERA and one save.
