Kids get special Salvation Army Target shopping spree

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Some students got to shop tax-free with police officers Friday morning.

The Greenville PAL Program and the Salvation Army partnered with Target to give school supplies to local children who need them.

Members of the Greenville Police Department paired up with the kids to assist them in checking off items from their school supply list.

Officers said the programs are about more than just getting much-needed school supplies.

"It gives them a chance to interact with good mentors, good role models through the community and it's not just the police officers," said Sgt. Michael Montanye, Greenville Police. "It's the different places in the community that they go!"

The program will continue Saturday morning at J.C. Penney where the kids will shop for new back-to-school clothes.
