2 die in Johnston Co. house fire

Posted: Updated:

A house fire claimed the lives of two people early Saturday near Angier, Johnston County authorities said.

Crews responded to the home around 2 a.m., located at 2028 County Line Road.

"They didn't ever meet a stranger," said neighbor Ronnie Smith.

Authorities say they haven't determined the cause of the fire, but they don't think it was intentionally set.

The bodies of the couple have been sent for autopsies. Their names have not been released.

Friends of the couple say they lived on land that had been with their family for generations and the home which burned down was built more than 150 years ago.
