Student Success Academy graduates recognized

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Summertime, for most kids, is filled with fun and games without a single thought of school.

But for some rising sixth graders, Thursday was graduation day.

Last year, teachers nominated students for the Success Academy summer program. They started the summer with a test and ended it the same way.

And the good news is all their scores went up.

Today's graduates received success certificates and all of them say this summer of hard work will pay off.

"It's just going to help a lot even with the reading, more fluently then I am now," said David Kennedy, Student Success Academy graduate.

"I think it's going to help me think about my decisions I make, be smarter about what I do, think before I do it," said Dashanti Palmer, Student Success Academy graduate.

The Student Success Academy is seven years old and according to program leaders none of the program's graduates have dropped out of school.

The first class is now entering its senior year of high school.
