Pamlico deputies warning of phone scam

Posted: Updated:
BAYBORO, N.C. -

The Pamlico County Sheriff's Office wants to warn you of an ongoing telephone scam.

The sheriff's office says the caller acts as a family member involved in an out-of-state car accident and needs money wired to them.

Then another caller says the relative has been arrested because of the accident and more money is needed.

The suspects say to wire the money via Western Union to the Dominican Republic.

The sheriff's office is advising everyone to verify phone calls and make sure you are in fact talking to your family members.
