8 women nabbed in year long prescription pill bust

Posted: Updated:

On Wednesday, the Duplin County Sheriff's Office announced the success of a year long joint investigation resulting in the seizure of hundreds of prescription pills obtained by false prescriptions and the arrest of eight women in connection with the forgery.

Deputies working with the State Bureau of Investigation recovered over 1,900 prescription pills of such drugs like Percocet and Adderral were obtained using forged prescriptions and taken to local and chain pharmacies like Walgreens in Duplin County. The street value of the pills are estimated to be nearly $20,000 dollars.

Deputies say Sarah Boone of Rose Hill wrote the false prescriptions and passed them on to six other people who took them to pharmacies to get the prescriptions.

In September 2012, a deputy performed a stop and search on a vehicle Boone was riding in. Inside, they uncovered 465 prescription pills prompting the investigation.

After the traffic stop, the sheriff's office obtained a search warrant for Boone's home where they found pills, fake prescriptions and the computer used to make the prescriptions.

Seven people are charged including Boone with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery. The eighth arrest is for conspiracy charges with the initial traffic stop.

The deputies worked with the SBI to track down the false prescriptions at all the pharmacies.
