DURHAM, N.C. -

North Carolina Central University suspended its football coach after he was arrested Monday on charges that he violated a protective order by his ex-wife.

Henry Frazier was charged with violating a domestic violence protective order at the Cary residence of his ex-wife, Lanier Turner-Frazier. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

Police say Turner-Frazier showed no signs of bodily harm. Police also say no weapons, alcohol or other illegal substances were involved.

As a result of the arrest, the university suspended Frazier, who is head coach of NCCU's football team.

"Coach Frazier has been suspended with full pay in accordance with university policies and procedures while the matter is being investigated by legal authorities," the university said in a statement. "Dwayne Foster, assistant head coach, will serve as acting head football coach."

Frazier's attorney, Ralph Frasier, told The Herald-Sun that the situation is nothing like it sounds.

"He will be vindicated," Frasier said.

Frazier was named the 21st head coach of the Eagles in 2010. He spent six seasons as the head coach at Prairie View A&M University.
