RALEIGH, N.C. -

A Wake County grand jury has indicted two teenagers charged with first-degree murder in the January deaths of Jose Samual Flores Mendoza and his wife, Maria Saravia Mendoza.

Isrrael Vasquez and Jonathan Santillan are both charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and one count each of conspiracy to commit murder, first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.

Santillan, who was 15 at the time of the murders, is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury. Vasquez, who was 16 at the time of the murders, is also charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Deputies say Maria and Jose Mendoza were unintended victims of a gang dispute when they were murdered Jan. 5 in the 700 block of Colonial Drive near Garner. Authorities believe a high-ranking gang member used to the live at the residence and may have been the intended target.

According to warrants, Vasquez used a .45mm Caliber Pistol with an obliterated serial number and a 7.62mm military-type rifle, which is believed to have been stolen.

Both Vasquez and Santillan will be charged as adults. Their cases had previously been in juvenile court.

Vasquez is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
