Touchdown Friday Preview

Posted: Updated:
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

The high school football season kicks off this Friday night and that of course means the season debut of Touchdown Friday! Our game of the week for week one is in Onslow County.

Defending 1AA state champion Southwest Onslow plays host to rival Jacksonville. Phil Padgett and the Stallions return a strong core of skill players, but the offensive line may be a question mark. Padgett loves a big challenge and is excited about opening night coming up.

Jacksonville returns most of its offense after an 8-5 campaign a year ago. The Cardinals hope to improve even more this year, but they face a difficult test in the opener against Southwest. Beau Williams continues to build this Jacksonville program and the coach has high expectations in 2013.

And in New Bern, the Bears also face a tough opener, Durham Hillside comes to town for a big non-conference matchup. The Bears won the state 4A championship last year. Josh Taylor graduated, several other key players are playing on the collegiate level and that has Bears Coach Bobby Curlings wondering who's going to step up.
