Dump truck overturns, spills 19 tons of rock; driver faces charges

WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

A heavily traveled road in Washington County, Tennessee will be closed for several hours while crews clean up a massive mess caused by an overturned dump truck.

The truck spilled 19 tons of rock as well as oil and diesel fuel when the vehicle overturned around 3:30 PM Monday, an official on the scene said.

No one was hurt. The truck was from Williams brothers trucking in Johnson City. 

The wreck scene is the 1100 block of State Route 81 North near the intersection of Fairview Circle and Horseshoe Bend Road.

A representative with the Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department said that section of Highway 81 will be closed until 7:00 p.m. or later and drivers should avoid the area.

Tennessee Highway Patrol says that road crews will try to offload the 19 tons of rock so that they can upright the truck. 

Meanwhile, the driver will be charged with going too fast for the roadway considering his cargo.
