JOHNSON CITY – The Farmers Market at East Tennessee State University resumes operation next week, with nearly all vendors from the previous season returning to offer a variety of fresh, seasonal produce and handmade specialty foods.

This is the fourth season for the Farmers Market at ETSU, which will reopen Thursday, Sept. 5, in the parking lot between the D.P. Culp University Center and Roy S. Nicks Hall. The market will be held every Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. through the end of October.

Two new vendors joined the market. Carniceria Dona Eva of Johnson City will offer tamales filled with locally farmed chicken and pork, and Happy Skin Naturals of Sevierville will bring handcrafted, all-natural skin products.

Vendors from the spring season who are returning for the autumn market include JEM Farms (located in Rogersville), which brings USDA-certified organic produce, eggs, organic chicken and sausages; Chapos Chile Patch (Jonesborough), which specializes in fresh and dried chiles; Street Eats (Johnson City), which brings sausage dogs made from Foothills Pasture Raised Meats (Old Fort, N.C.) and homemade mustards; Trosly Farm (Elk Park, N.C.), a purveyor of artisan breads and chocolates; Oak Moon Creamery (Bakersville, N.C.), which offers a variety of goat cheeses; Auntie Ruth's Donuts (Chuckey), maker of well-known homemade donuts and soft pretzels; The Crazy Cupcake (Jonesborough), a maker of specialty cupcakes; and Chocolate Elegance (Johnson City), which offers handmade, gourmet chocolates.

In addition to vendors, the market also features live music from ETSU musicians, as well as cooking demonstrations that are funded by the Appalachian Farmers Market Association.

The market is on Facebook at www.facebook.com/FarmersMarketatETSU and maintains a blog at http://thefarmersmarketatetsu.wordpress.com.
