Fuel line fire extinguished at Coastal Carolina Regional Airport

Posted: Updated:
NEW BERN, N.C. -

Airplane mechanics are trying to figure out what caused a small fire that broke out at a local airport.

The fire happened at Coastal Carolina Regional Airport in New Bern around 10:45 this morning.

Airport director Tom Braaten says crews were working on an old historic aircraft near the Fed Ex building on Airport Road when a fuel line broke and caught fire.

Braaten says crews used a fire extinguisher to attack the flames. Firefighters responded too.

The fire was put out quickly and the plane was not damaged, said Braaten.

The aircraft used to fly in air shows, but has not been in the air for 3 years, said Braaten.

Braaten says crews were trying to restore the aircraft so it could fly again.
