Man uses screwdriver as a weapon in robbery

A man is in jail after deputies say he used a screwdriver to rob someone.

Wesley Baxter, 24, was charged with robbery with firearm or other dangerous weapon, Larceny from a person, Assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping. He is being held at the Onslow County Detention Center under $130,000 bond.

On Sunday, The Onslow County Sheriff's Office say they received a call just after 4:00a.m. about an armed robbery.

Deputies say it happened  at the Scotchman Store on Highway 172 in Hubert.

Deputies say the Baxter, was wearing a ski mask,  robbed a customer using a screwdriver and took off on a moped. A little while later, a deputy spotted the suspect, who was still wearing the ski mask, and arrested him.

Deputies say  he claimed he needed the money and apologized for robbing the victim.
