SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Authorities are investigating a murder suicide at 4015 Old Bradenton Road where a 35 year old mother has been found dead and her 17 month old daughter shot in the head. Sarasota Police say the child's father had just returned home from a scooter ride, at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, when he heard gun shots and called 9-1-1.

Detectives say they believe the girls mother shot the child and then turned the gun on herself. The child was flown to All Children's Hospital but did not survive.

The mother has now been identified as Sarah Harnish. The child's name is Josephine Boice.
