Kingsport man died in one-car wreck in Lee County, VA

Virginia State Police are investigating a single-car accident that killed a Kingsport, TN man on Labor Day. 

The accident happened in Lee County, VA around 5:00 p.m. on Route 23 – less than a mile from Route 900.

Police say Jeffery Stapleton, 58, of Kingsport was driving a 1999 Saturn SL, and heading southbound on Route 23, when the car ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert, a mailbox and a highway sign. It then struck an embankment and overturned. 

Stapleton died at the scene. Authorities say he was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.


Virginia State Police confirm a fatal wreck happened on U.S. Rt. 23 along the Lee County and Wise County line. VSP says the incident happened Monday afternoon.
