2-car accident shuts down Clearwater road

Posted: Updated:
CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) -

Clearwater Police closed Gulf to Bay Boulevard near Hercules Avenue in both directions Tuesday morning due to an accident.

According to CPD, a medical helicopter was dispatched to the scene. Officers haven't released details of the accident, but they said two cars were involved.

Robert Williams, who lives near the intersection, says he wasn't not surprised to hear about the accident.

"You see a lot of dangerous stuff," he said. "This is a dangerous corner at this period."

David Kaucher, who witnessed the accident, said one car was turning, the other was going across the intersection towards Tampa and they both tried to make the light. The car going straight couldn't stop on time and hit the turning car.

"It was kinda spooky," he said about the accident.

Police blocked Gulf to Bay Boulevard near Hercules Avenue to let the helicopter land.

Police are investigating.
