Goldsboro gets $10 million transportation grant

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $10 million grant to the city of Goldsboro to be used to complete several local infrastructure projects.

The money from the agency's 2013 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Discretionary Grants Program. It will be used to complete several downtown projects, including construction of the Gateway Transit Authority Transfer Facility and the completion of streetscaping activities on Center Street.

Goldsboro Mayor Alfonzo King said the projects will now be completed in a shorter period of time and will benefit his city as well as all of eastern North Carolina.
