NC Senate leader's general counsel leaving post

RALEIGH, N.C. -

The chief lawyer for Senate leader Phil Berger at the General Assembly is leaving her post to return to her previous law firm.

Berger announced Wednesday that Tracy Kimbrell will step down as his general counsel. Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein says she will become partner and co-chair of the firm's government relations and lobbying team in Raleigh starting Oct. 1.

Kimbrell has worked at her current post since 2011, when Berger was elected Senate president pro tempore.

She previously worked at the law firm for five years starting in 2005. She has a bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
