Pennsylvania man arrested transporting cocaine

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in Pasquotank County after being caught transporting cocaine.

The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office says, on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 a Pennsylvania man was arrested after more than five ounces of cocaine and $5,729 was seized from him. FBI Task Force Agents with  Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, and Dare County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to make the substantial seizure of illegal drugs that were being transported by the defendant, Curtis Leon Smith, of Allentown, Pa. The cocaine has a street value of $14,900.

Pasquotank County Deputies did a traffic stop on a 2007 Dodge Nitro that was registered to and driven by the defendant. The traffic stop was conducted on Highway 17 North near mile marker 266 outside of Elizabeth City; Dare County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the stop. Smith was the only occupant of the vehicle and was arrested on scene after the seizure was made at the traffic stop. Smith was processed at the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office and served arrest warrants for three counts of trafficking cocaine and one count of maintaining a place for the storage of a controlled substance

Smith was confined in Albemarle District Jail under a $70,000 secured bond. Smith has a preliminary hearing in Pasquotank County District Court on Thursday, September 5.
