School won’t let girl have dreadlocks

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, OK (WFLA) -

A dress code disagreement left a Tulsa family upset and a little girl in tears.

Terrance Parker says the school hassled him so much about his daughter's hair, he removed her from the school.

7-year old Tiana has dreadlocks and it's against school rules. Administrators said Mr. Parker was fully aware what was expected.

CNN affiliate KOKI reviewed the school's dress code. It states, "Hairstyles such as dreadlocks, afros, Mohawks, and other faddish styles are unacceptable.

The school feels her hairstyle could be a distraction.

Tiana's father moved her to another school.  She has the same hair style and officials at her new school don't have a problem with her hair.
