GREENVILLE, N.C. - Highway Patrol says 51-year-old Kenan Fleming is dead after being hit and killed in Greenville.

Troopers say the accident happened just after 5:40 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of J.C Galloway Road and Boyd Galloway Road.

Troopers say Fleming was heading east on  J.C Galloway Road when a trash can fell out of his truck. Fleming pulled his truck into the westbound lane, turned on the lights, and got out of his car to pick up the trash cans. At the same time a teen on was driving westbound on J.C Galloway Road noticed the truck stopped in his lane, slowed down, tried to pull off onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the truck. Unfortunately, Fleming was standing in the shoulder and the teen hit him. Troopers say Fleming was killed instantly.
