NC revenue secretary remains on medical leave

RALEIGH, N.C. -

(AP) - North Carolina's top tax law enforcer is still off the job on medical leave.

A Department of Revenue official said Tuesday there's no timetable for the return of Lyons Gray, whose leave was announced more than five weeks ago by the governor's office. But spokesman Thomas Beam says Gray is expected back soon, pending his doctor's approval.

The department had little other information about Gray except that Chief Operating Officer Jeff Epstein is the acting secretary.

Gray is from Winston-Salem and previously served as a state legislator and the chief financial officer at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency during the administration of President George W. Bush.
