RALEIGH, N.C. -

The jury has reached a verdict in the Grant Hayes murder trial. The Raleigh man is charged with killing his ex-girlfriend, Laura Ackerson from Kinston, over a custody dispute.

After less than two hours of deliberations, the jury found Hayes guilty of 1st degree murder.

During the trial, prosecutors argued Hayesand his wife Amanda lured Ackerson to their Raleigh apartment in the summer of 2011. They argued the couple murdered her, dismembered her, and dumped her remains in a Texas creek.

The defense said Amanda Hayes did the killign and Grant Hayes only helped cover it up. Amanda Hayes goes on trial for murder in January.
