Wilmington official charged with DWI for 2nd time

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The CEO of the Wilmington Housing Authority is facing his second driving-while-impaired charge since taking charge of the agency five years ago.

Police say a 911 call reported an SUV driving erratically as it headed toward Wrightsville Beach.

Wilmington police charged Michael Krause with impaired driving Sunday. According to dispatch logs, police officers reported three separate breath-alcohol readings of 0.35, 0.31 and 0.31. The legal limit in North Carolina is 0.08.

The 41-year-old Krause also was cited for having no driver's license.

Jeff Hovis, the chairman of the authority's board of commissioners, said Krause has taken a leave of absence. The board has scheduled a special meeting for Thursday morning to discuss the matter.

Krause, who has been CEO of the authority since 2008, earns $142,000.
