8 students charged in western NC high school brawl

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Eight students are facing charges after a brawl at Erwin High School in which two teachers were hurt while trying to break up the melee.

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that 19-year-old Isael Delgado and 18-year-old Dequawn Daniels were charged with disorderly conduct. The fight occurred on Tuesday.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Natalie Bailey said six other students who are minors were also charged with disorderly conduct.

Bailey said three teachers were involved in trying to break up the fight, and 2 of them were treated for minor injuries. A third teacher declined treatment.

Bailey said the sheriff's office is providing extra officers at the school for the next several days, and that an investigation into the incident is continuing.
