5 men in custody in connection with Fayetteville kidnapping, murder

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Police arrested two more suspects, including the man suspected of being the triggerman, in connection with the Sept. 1 kidnapping and murder Errol Williams.

Members of the US Marshal's Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Kelly Elliott Wednesday night at a residence in Conroe, Texas.

Elliott, 31, is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center in Conroe, Texas pending extradition back to Fayetteville.

He is charged with first degree murder, two counts of first degree kidnapping, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Joseph DeShawn Haskins, 21, was arrested during a traffic stop Wednesday night on Murchison Road near Phillips Street. He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

Haskins is charged with first-degree murder, two counts first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The men are among five named in connection with the Sept. 1 kidnapping and murder of Williams. Police say Williams was kidnapped from the parking lot of a convenience store at Bragg Boulevard and Shaw Road around 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 1.

Police say the suspects forced Williams to drive about a mile away where they shot and killed him.

Police believe Elliott was the triggerman in Williams' death and the man seen in surveillance video at the crime scene.

Thursday morning, Members of the U.S. Marshal's Task Force, along with detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department, arrested Kourtney Terrell Reed, 20, in connection with the crime at a home in St. Pauls, N.C.

Reed is charged with two counts of first degree kidnapping, and one count each of first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police say Reed was hiding in the attic of the St. Pauls home when he fell through the ceiling into the presence of the arresting officers.

On Sept. 3, police arrested 31-year-old Eric Lamont Phillips at his home on charges of drug possession and possession of a firearm.

And on Sept. 6, police arrested Anthony Solomon Porter, 26, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in connection with an Aug. 18 shooting. He is also charged with conspiracy to commit a felonious assault, and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police have not said how Porter is connected to the Sept. 1 murder, only that he and Phillips are associates of Elliott and that they remain suspects in several criminal investigations.

Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock said police are investigating the possibility that the men were involved in an incident early Friday where a man was shot to death outside Chief's 25 Plus nightclub on Rowan Street.

In that case, police say a shootout erupted when victims of an attempted armed robbery pulled out their own guns and opened fire. Derrick Morrisey, 37, of Raeford, who was walking a woman to her car, was hit and killed by a stray bullet, according to police.
