PENNINGTON GAP, VA (WJHL) -

A group of concerned citizens say they will gather together today in hopes of preventing their community hospital from closing. The group, from the Pennington Gap, Virginia area, says they will pray and rally at 1:00 today in front of the Lee Regional Medical Center.  The medical center, a 70-bed facility in operation for more than 70 years, will close October 1st.  Wellmont Health System cited reimbursement cuts associated with the Affordable Care Act, low community use of the hospital, and a lack of consistent physician coverage as the primary reasons for the closure.
