GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Students at a Greenville middle school got some special visitors today.

Several graduate students and professors from Hiroshima University in Japan stopped by C.M. Eppes Middle School.

The group is spending two days in Greenville to observe and collaborate with American teachers. It’s part of the “global partnership” Hiroshima University has with ECU.

The idea is to educate students about other cultures, while exposing Japanese student teachers to the education system in America.

"This is a challenge for them to [teach] in English,” says Seiji Fukazawa, a professor at Hiroshima University who organized the trip. “So that's a big challenge and to teach about their culture and interact with local students and work together to further our international understandings."

This the seventh year C.M. Eppes has participated in the program. The Japanese students also visited two elementary schools in town and plan to visit Raleigh and Washington, D.C., before they head back to Japan.
