GREENVILLE, N.C. - On Monday, Ethan Lenker attended his first official meeting as the Pitt County School's Superintendent.

Part of Lenker's task is trying to improve education after the state budget cut $2.7 million in funding. At the meeting board members approved a resolution to send to Governor Pat McCrory to persuade him to reconsider the state budget cuts to education.

"It's all about getting good people into the classroom with the kids and into the school buildings. That's what are resolution is all about. "Red for Ed" is all about the same thing. Getting the teachers what they deserve, the salaries. And bringing back teacher's assistants," said Lenker.
Since Lenker took over on Sept. 3rd. he has been working hard to settle in and make sure he is meeting with students, parents, and teachers in the community. Something he is says is important in establishing trust and getting people on board with school improvement.

Board members also agreed to put off hiring a board attorney. Members plan to re-advertise the postion after the first the of the year. Also, during the meeting, Pitt County Information Technology Coordinator, Tim DeCresie, provided an update on the schools technology improvements and plans for the future. Based on the presentation, it appears all classrooms in every school will have the capacity be wireless in time for online testing in the spring.
