2 full-moon tours set for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

MANTEO, N.C. - The National Park Service is providing tourists with two final chances in 2013 to climb the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse under a full moon.

The park service is offering the final two climbs of the year on Thursday. The first tour is slated for 7:30 p.m., with the second set for 8:30 p.m. Both tours are limited to 30 people apiece.

Ticket sales will start on Tuesday and there will be no refunds. The tickets must be purchased in person.

Since there are no lights inside the lighthouse, climbers will have to navigate the 257 stairs using handheld flashlights which they must provide themselves.

Participants must be at least 42 inches tall and must climb the steps on their own. Children 11 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
