CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The University of North Carolina Department of Public Safety has made an arrest in a reported sexual assault at the State Employees Credit Union House last Friday.

Warrants were issued for Rafael Sierra Gaona, 55. He was taken into custody late Monday night, according to officers.

Gaona is charged with second-degree rape related to the assault on Friday, Sept. 13, at the SECU House on Mason Farm Road. He is being held on $40,000 bond and will have a hearing in front of a judge Tuesday.

The SECU House says there was no break-in, implying, the suspect was likely let in. UNC public safety refused to say how the man entered the building, or if he knew the victim, saying it could hurt their investigation.

The SECU House provides housing for families with an adult patient being treated for a critical illness or injury at UNC Hospitals or its affiliated clinics.

WNCN visited the House shortly after the alleged assault, and needed to be buzzed in to gain access to the lobby, as the front doors remain locked.
