Poll: Favorable rating falls for NC Gov. McCrory

ELON, N.C. -

(AP) - A survey indicates Gov. Pat McCrory has lost popularity with North Carolina registered voters since spring. President Barack Obama appears to have had a similar decline.

The Elon University Poll released Thursday has 36% of those surveyed this week approve of McCrory's job performance, compared to 46% in April. Those who disapproved grew from 25% in April to 46%.

The Republican governor has received negative attention from hiring decisions at the health department and signing legislation from the GOP-led legislature. The General Assembly's approval rating is 32%.

The poll sets Obama's approval rating at 38%, compared to 45% in April. Congress' approval rating is 14%.

The Elon poll of 701 registered voters has a margin of sampling error of 3.7%age points.
