People wait in lines in Tampa stores for new iPhone

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

For Apple fans and iPhone aficionados the day is finally here. The iPhone 5C and 5S hit stores today. Customers could preorder the new less expensive 5C model but not the 5S.

Around 4 a.m. about 50 people were already in line at International Plaza in Tampa. Pamela Niemerier was at the front. She got to the store at 4 p.m. Thursday.

"I used to live in Tampa. I moved away and I'm living in Telluride, Colorado out in the mountains," Niemerier said. "It's not like I have an Apple store much less an AT&T store is two hours away from me."

She came back to the Bay Area to visit and pick up 3 iPhone 5S models.

College student, Scott Roeper, considers waiting in line with his father a "fun thing to do together." He wants a gold 5S.

"I just randomly said gotta take a chance," Roeper said. "Gotta go for it. We'll drive out take turns sleeping in a car and trying to avoid rain storms and just have fun little bit of family bonding time."

Apple at International Plaza opens at 8 a.m.
