Standoff at Bethel home over; no injuries reported

BETHEL, N.C. - A standoff in Bethel is over.

Sunday afternoon, the Bethel Police Department, Pitt County Sheriff's Office and Greenville Police SWAT team responded to reports of family dispute and assault at a home on James Street in Bethel.

The person who called 9-1-1 told police there was a woman who locked herself inside the house with a gun.

Witnesses tell 9 On Your Side the incident started around 12:30 p.m.  A standoff ensued and lasted about three hours.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Law enforcement officials were able to get the woman out and took her to Vidant Medical Center for evaluation.
