New Hillsborough trash bin use starts Monday

Posted: Updated:
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Beginning Monday Sep. 30, Hillsborough County shifts to the use of the new automated trash collection system.

Residents who’ve received their new trash and recycle bins can begin using those bins on their collection days.

For people who are concerned the roll carts are too large, the county urges you try them out until Jan. 15, 2014, which covers the holiday season. After that time period, you can exchange the roll cart, a one-time size change, at no charge.

That can be arranged by contacting your Franchise Collector from Jan. 15, 2014 – March 15, 2014
Roll cart size changes after the Jan. 15, 2014 - March 15, 2014 “swap out” period will incur a $30 charge each.

If you’re wondering what to do with your old cans, the county suggests keeping it for yard waste. If you don’t want it, place them curbside for collection the week of Sep. 23 with a note directing your service provider to take the cans.

After the new automated program starts, old trash cans can be placed in your gray roll cart to be thrown away, or taken to a Community Collection Center.
