Actors say Law & Order: SVU season premiere felt like a pilot

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

The much anticipated season premiere of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit steps the intensity up a notch with Det. Olivia Benson held captive by a sadistic madman.

"We got to go further than we've ever done," Mariska Hargitay, who plays Benson on the show, said. "For me, it was exciting knowing how low we're starting and how dark it's starting and maybe how light it's going to end."

Although the show is in its 15th season, the actors and the show's executive producer say it feels more like a pilot than a season premiere.

"I think we're raising the bar," said Ice-T, who plays Det. Fin Tutuola on the show. "I think television as a whole is getting more intense, so I think that's making everybody step it up a bit.

"Our first three shows are very, very, very intense, especially the opener. The two-hour premiere is going to be pretty heavy."
