Newport man arrested on drug & weapons charges

NEWPORT, N.C. - Deputies arrested a Newport man on numerous drug and weapons charges.

It happened September 20th.

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office says one of its deputies spotted 37-year-old Troy Lee Brown, who had outstanding warrants, driving down Hwy 24 in Broad Creek. Brown was taken into custody without incident.

A search of his vehicle and residence led to the discovery of numerous firearms. Brown is a convicted felon.

He’d also been previously investigated by detectives, who had made numerous drug buys off of him.

Brown was charged with four counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, one count of larceny, one count of Possession of a Stole Firearm, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, three counts of Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine, three counts of selling methamphetamine, three counts of delivering meth, and three counts of maintaining a dwelling to sell illegal narcotics.

Brown was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $101,000 bond. He’s already had his first court appearance.
