Mystery remains surrounding missing Outer Banks boater

Posted: Updated:

Nearly a year after a boater vanishes off the North Carolina coast, detectives in the Outer Banks are still trying to solve the mystery.

51-year-old Jeffrey McCusker disappeared in January. Investigators found his car and an empty boat trailer at the Wanchese boat ramp in Dare County.

McCusker and his boat were nowhere to be found and no one reported seeing him at the boat ramp.

Detectives say they aren’t giving up hope.

"Locating anything in the ocean or the sound of course becomes harder overtime so it becomes extremely difficult to solve these types of cases when they just up and become missing. But, of course, we want to do everything we can for the family. The family's lost a son and a brother that they don't know what happened to either,” said Lt. Kevin Duprey with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone who may live or vacation in the area, or might have seen McCusker, should contact the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.
