GREENVILLE, N.C. -

East Carolina opened the 2013-14 basketball season on Monday with the team's first practice.

The squad worked out "officially" for the first time at the new, 17-million dollar Smith-Williams Center adjacent to Minges Coliseum.

Pirate head coach Jeff Lebo may have needed a roster sheet to with all of the new players he has in the program.

"Show me a team with a lot of new and young players and I'll show you a team that struggles," he joked.

Miguel Paul and Maurice Kemp both exhausted their eligibility. Robert Sampson transferred and then Ty Armstrong opted not to return for his senior season.

The Pirates open the season on Friday, November 8th hosting North Carolina Wesleyan.
