Stockstill's rejection led to McNeill's hiring at ECU

Posted: Updated:

East Carolina travels to Murfreesboro this week to take on Middle Tennessee and former ECU assistant coach Rick Stockstill.

Stockstill has had great success with the Blue Raiders. Four years ago he appeared to be Skip Holtz's successor at ECU.

Pirate officials thought they had a deal for Stockstill to return to Greenville as the new Pirate coach. According to sources at ECU, Stockstill reversed his decision upon returning to Murfreesboro.

Ruffin McNeill was then hired as the new East Carolina coach a week later.

"Stock's a good coach," said McNeill smiling. "But I'm a better fit. I'm a Pirate."
