FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A woman killed at her home in Cumberland County was an Army veteran and an ordained minister, her sister said on Thursday.

Yolanda Renee George, 57, was found dead behind a neighbor's home on Matt Hair Road Wednesday morning. Her son Jamal Skinner, 35, was also found dead inside the home. On Thursday, her sister Piccola Miller was at the house taking out personal belongings.

"This is terrible. This is hard to get over," Miller said. "It's a hard pill to swallow. You better believe it, it is really hard."

Cumberland County Sheriff's Detectives said they are investigating the case as a double homicide. The bodies were sent to the state medical examiner's office to determine a cause of death.

"What it was all about I don't know," Miller said. "It's a puzzle, and I guess eventually it'll get put together, but I don't know nothing."

While Miller may not know who is responsible or how exactly her sister and nephew where killed, she wonders if it had to do with a break-in just the day before. She said her sister thought she knew who had stolen things from her home and she expected them to come back.

"She left her truck down there in my back yard so they wouldn't know she was home," Miller explained. "She said they're coming back to get the TVs, and I'm going to be waiting for them. Why she didn't call the cops, I don't know."

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna did say people who live in the community should not worry about the crime being random. "People in the neighboring homes have nothing to fear," Tanna wrote in an email. The sheriff's office did not release any other details about the investigation.

The area where George and Skinner lived is in the Cedar Creek area of Cumberland County, about 20 minutes southeast of Fayetteville. Deputies had the road blocked for hours Wednesday afternoon.

Miller said her sister was born and raised in New York, but she was stationed at Fort Bragg while in the Army. Miller said her nephew was a Navy veteran.

For Miller who lives just down the road, these murders have shaken up the quiet country living she's accustomed to enjoying.

"I guess as time goes on it'll register and I'll know that she's really gone, but it's hard to know that my sister is gone," Miller said.
