Police release new details in Rutrough Rd death investigation, asking for public's help

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

The Roanoke County Police Department is releasing new information about a recent suspicious death investigation and is asking for the public's help to solve it.

On Monday, September 23, the body of 51-year-old Charles Perdue was discovered in the 4300 block of Rutrough Road.

Investigators now reveal that he was found lying along the side of the road, a few dozen feet from the entrance to Explore Park's Rutrough Point -- and say it appears he was hit by a vehicle.  They tells us it's unclear at this point if he was struck at that location or if his body was dropped there.

Perdue was last seen Sunday, September 22 drinking with friends.  Police say he was wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and white sneakers at the time.

They added he would frequently spend time in the area around Bennington Street and Riverdale Road in SE Roanoke and that he was known to walk at all hours of the day.

Investigators say they have questioned several people and that everyone they've spoken to has been cooperative with them.  They do not have any official suspects at this time.

If you have any information about the case, about Perdue, or you may have seen him before he was found, you're asked to call Detective Dan Walters at (540) 777-8637.

You can also leave anonymous tips by calling Roanoke Valley Crime Line at (540) 344-8500.
