Posted: Updated:

According to our Myrtle Beach NBC affiliate WMBF, traffic on Highway 17 Bypass between 21st and 10th Avenue North shut down for hours Friday after fatal crash involving a motorcycle.

A married man and woman driving the motorcycle were killed as a result of the crash. Thomas Weeks III, 43-years-old from Blacksburg, VA died on the scene. His wife, 36-year-old Stephanie Weeks, also of Blacksburg died at 10:40 a.m. Saturday morning. Both fatalities resulted from trauma from the accident.

The crash, according to police spokesman Capt. David Knipes occurred when the motorcycle the Weeks' were on, headed northbound, lost control and crossed the grass median. It then struck an SUV that was traveling southbound.

The SUV ended up in a ditch on the southbound side, and two occupants in the SUV were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Capt. Knipes said he was not sure who was operating the motorcycle.

Myrtle Beach Police are asking anyone who may have seen the accident to call 843-918-1382.

An online donation page has been set up in memory of Trey and Stephanie to help with any financial need the family may have and also for their 4-year-old daughter, Amarynn.
