High school student leads troopers in 100 MPH chase – Crashes into house

GRIMESLAND, N.C. -

A Pitt County teen led troopers on a high speed chase Tuesday morning after he assaulted his stepfather.

Troopers tell 9 On Your Side that 16-year-old Steven Rollins got into an argument with his stepfather early Tuesday morning. The argument led to the teen assaulting his stepfather and then taking off in the man’s SUV.

A trooper on patrol clocked the teen going 100 miles per hour and began chasing after the teenager. During the pursuit troopers say Rollins ran through two stops signs. The chase led troopers down Highway 43 near Blackjack Simpson Road where Rollins almost hit a car and a truck. Troopers say the Rollins then attempted a right turn going almost 80 miles per hour. That caused the SUV to crash into an abandoned home. The car finally stopped on top of a tree stump.

Paramedics check out the teenager before the troopers arrested him.

Trooper Bullard tells 9 On Your Side that Rollins attends Ayden-Grifton High School, and that he now faces several charges including speeding, felony fleeing to elude arrest, reckless driving, two stop sign violations, and having no driver’s license.

The teenager’s parents are also bringing charges against Rollins.
