NCCU sophomore arrested for murder

Durham police arrested and charged a 20-year-old North Carolina Central University student in connection with an April murder.

Police said Rakeem Montel Best, 20, of Durham, was arrested by investigators around noon Tuesday for the murder of 19-year-old JeJuan Jonteil Taylor Jr. at the Duke Manor Apartments on April 18.

Taylor, of Cleveland Street, was shot and killed while in his vehicle at 311 S. LaSalle Street just after 9 p.m., according to police.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

The University confirmed Best is enrolled as a sophomore at NCCU.

Hope Farley, 19, of Durham and Thomas Antwan Clayton, 21, of Morrisville were arrested in April and charged with murder in connection with this case, police said.

Farley and Clayton were both charged with conspiring to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Best, Farley, and Clayton are being held in the Durham County Jail.

The first court appearance for Best is scheduled for Oct. 9.
