Active shooter training at Dixon Middle School

Posted: Updated:
HOLLY RIDGE, N.C. -

Monday, Dixon Middle School in Onslow County will play host to an active shooter training session.

It’s a teacher workday, so students will not be at school, and teachers will be off campus for a professional development course.

“This is a situation we hope will never occur, but in order to be better prepared we must be proactive,” says Onslow County School’s spokesperson Suzie Ulbrich.

The drills will allow the district to evaluate the current response plan for active shooter scenarios. It will also teach officers and first responders how to handle a live shooter in a school.

Emergency and police vehicles will be parked outside the building with lights and sirens on throughout the day on Monday, October 14.

Please do not be alarmed if you see these vehicles. It is just a drill.
