Grand jury indicts Amanda Hayes in Ackerson death

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. - A grand jury returned an indictment for a woman facing charges in the death of Kinston mother Laura Ackerson.

It indicted Amanda Hayes Monday for accessory after the fact of murder.

A jury found her husband, Grant Hayes, guilty last month of the murder of Ackerson, his former girlfriend and mother of his 2 children.

Ackerson was last seen alive in Raleigh in July of 2011. Her remains turned up 11 days later in a Texas creek.

Grant Hayes will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Amanda Hayes is also charged with Ackerson's murder and is set for trial in January.
